Who am I? Why am I here?

Starting a blog is hardly an original idea. Regularly updating and maintaining a blog, however, is a feat achieved by a scant few. I've been flirting with the thought of having a blog off and on for quite a long time, but have never been at a comfortable place in my life, nor have I, admittedly, had anything interesting enough to say to merit creating one. As I am now a quasi-professional artist working in my field of choice for nigh just under a year with at least that much experience under my belt, I'm finally in a position where I feel my opinions are valuable enough to share with anyone who happens across my virtual scratching post.

I am not one to hold much stock in magic bullets or cure-alls, especially those concerned with self help and being successful. However, I do believe in the power of developing good habits and routines for the sake of bettering oneself. As I stated in the previous paragraph, maintaining a blog for any extended period of time is seldom a successful endeavor. I assume this is because most blogs are created by people with lives outside of computer space, on a whim, with no real purpose or long-term goals. It is a responsibility I imagine people most-often give themselves for recreational purposes, and not out of necessity. The difference between myself and the majority of amateur bloggers is not that I'm more responsible or have more legitimate things to say, but that the majority of my time is spent at the computer, and claiming it would be an inconvenience to update would be an outright, monumental lie.

So why am I starting here? My reasons are simple enough. This blog is meant to track my growth as an artist (through the posting of illustrations, animation, figure studies, or random doodles), and be a place to share my opinions about things that interest me including (but not limited to):
  • Animation (film, television, east & west, CG & traditional)
  • Games (design, development, the playing of, etc)
  • Art & Design
  • Religion
  • Film
  • Music
  • Psychology
If nothing else, my wish is that this blog will at least motivate me to keep moving. I think having a place out here to look back on and see where I've been will be encouraging. Yeah, I'm being unnecessarily romantic about it. It is just a blog anyway. But one has to start somewhere, and now is good a time as any.
